WHALE WATCHING

You can follow the 'East Coast Whale Trail' along Tasmania's East Coast and local points for whale watching include The Gardens, Binalong Bay, Burns Bay and Beer Barrel Beach.

While there are around 40 species of whales and dolphins in our waters, you might see large whales like Humpbacks and Southern Right Whales and also Killer Whales.

Humpbacks whales can be spotted between May and July when they migrate north to breeding areas off the coast of Queensland and Western Australia and between September and November on their return south to their sub-antarctic feeding grounds.

Southern Right Whales migrate north between June to September to the waters of southern mainland Australia and return south from September and late October. A proportion of the population gives birth in Tasmanian waters.
